50,000 Followers, 15,000 Subscribers, and One Incredible Journey
Maybe it’s serendipity, but today two pretty incredible milestones happened at the exact same time.
Great Lakes Travel Deals crossed 50,000 Facebook followers and 15,000 direct email subscribers.
What a ride this has been.
For those of you who are new here (and there are a lot of you this summer), welcome!
I started Great Lakes Travel Deals three years ago with a pretty simple idea. I believed there were a lot of people throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region who loved to travel, but wanted better information about when prices were actually a good deal.
Not everyone picks a destination first and then searches for flights.
Sometimes the deal can create the adventure.
I also believed there was value in understanding the unique profile of each airport in our region. Flint has direct flights Grand Rapids doesn’t. Grand Rapids has routes South Bend doesn’t. Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto can unlock incredible international options if you’re willing to be flexible.
So I built a program and started watching all of them.
Over the last three years I’ve shared thousands of discounted flights from airports across Michigan, along with Chicago, Toronto, South Bend, and beyond.
And some of these deals still don’t seem real:
Saint Lucia for $244
Turks & Caicos for $252
Barcelona for $274
Dublin for $306 (which turned into an amazing family adventure)
Orlando for $34
Fort Myers for $38
It has been so much fun seeing these deals turn into real trips, family memories, bucket list adventures, and destinations people may have never considered.
This started as just an idea and has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
To everyone who has followed along, subscribed, shared a deal with a friend, sent a kind message, or told me about a trip you booked — thank you.

Discounted nonstop flights from Chicago to Bozeman are available August through December, including Saturday-to-Saturday weeklong trips.
Shorter weekend options are available too — open up the flight calendar and move the dates around to find what works best.
This route is typically $300+ and the last time I spotted pricing this low was back in January.
