I’m thrilled to introduce you to Crystal Mountain, a true Northern Michigan gem that holds a special place in my heart. For those who already know this incredible resort, you understand why it’s such an amazing destination. And for those who haven’t discovered it yet, you’re in for a treat. I have cherished memories of spending ski weekends here and it’s also where my kids took their first turns on the slopes through Crystal’s outstanding lesson programs. Whether you’re new to skiing or a seasoned pro, Crystal Mountain offers something special for everyone.
Crystal Mountain, a family-owned business with roots dating back to 1956, has evolved into a sophisticated four-season resort. What began as a modest ski hill has blossomed into a premier destination, beloved by skiers, golfers, families, and those celebrating life’s special moments—from weddings and reunions to corporate events.
Recognized as one of the Top 25 Family-friendly Ski Resorts in North America by Travel + Leisure and ranked among the Top 10 Best Family Ski Resorts in the U.S. and Canada by Condé Nast Traveler, Crystal Mountain is truly designed with families in mind. From beginner-friendly slopes and expert instruction to diverse year-round activities, the resort offers something for everyone.
A Resort Steeped in History
Crystal Mountain began as Buck Hills in 1956 with a single T-bar lift and two slopes. In 1960, it was renamed to reflect its pristine surroundings and its proximity to Crystal Lake. Over the decades, the resort grew steadily, adding modern ski runs, chairlifts, cross-country trails, and snowmaking systems. By the 1990s, it had evolved into a year-round destination with 36-holes championship golf, family-friendly amenities, and luxurious lodging options.
