A new nonstop route is giving West Michigan travelers another reason to consider flying from Muskegon. Beginning January 9, 2027, Denver Air Connection will offer seasonal Saturday service from Muskegon County Airport (MKG) to Orlando Sanford (SFB)—the first scheduled nonstop Florida service in the airport’s history.
Flights will operate aboard a 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 jet, with fares starting at $199 one way. Tickets go on sale November 10 at DenverAirConnection.com.
For West Michigan travelers planning a winter escape, free parking at MKG and a nonstop Saturday flight make this an appealing option. Orlando Sanford (SFB) offers a smaller airport experience and convenient access to Central Florida and Atlantic Coast beaches. It’s separate from Orlando International (MCO), so compare driving distances to your accommodations when planning.
The news follows a recent visit that gave me a fresh appreciation for this airport—and a different perspective on our lakeshore.
A Window Seat to Michigan’s Fall Colors
This October, I boarded a plane simply to enjoy the view. Muskegon County Airport and Denver Air Connection offered $10 fall color flights, and our roughly 30-minute trip delivered: harbor towns, colorful trees, farmland tucked behind the dunes, and Silver Lake Sand Dunes from above.
We took off under cloudy skies, but when the sun broke through, Lake Michigan turned an almost Caribbean turquoise. It reminded me how easily we take flying for granted when we’re focused on getting somewhere. This time, looking out the window was the whole point.
It was also a great introduction to an airport some West Michigan travelers may never have considered using.
Come along for a look inside the airport, boarding, and the views along Michigan’s lakeshore.
Chicago Service Opens Up More Possibilities
Beyond the upcoming Florida route, Denver Air Connection offers daily nonstop service from Muskegon to Chicago O’Hare (ORD). Travelers can visit Chicago or connect to destinations farther afield through the airline’s interline agreements with United, American, and Delta.
When searching for flights, it’s easy to default to the airport you always use. Muskegon is a reminder that checking another nearby departure point can open up possibilities.
Between its Chicago service, new Florida route, and memorable experiences like the fall color flights, MKG is giving travelers more reasons to start their next trip on the Lakeshore.
