Anyone have any exciting summer travel plans? As a family we’re staying close to home this summer, but I would love to hear what you’ve got going on. Who’s going the farthest? Who’s doing something unique and off the beaten path? Let’s hear it!
We’re putting the kids in a three day sailing school in Northport and plan to spend a couple days in Leland. We always do a float trip down the Platte, which kicks you out into one of the most beautiful spots in the Sleeping Bear lakeshore. That’s about the extent of our summer plans.
We are a part of a traditional Mexican catholic wedding that will take place in San Luis Potosí in August. We will also get to go a reboda, a party that takes place the day after the wedding where the 2 families come together, kill some livestock and cook all day and celebrate. The reboda will be at the bride’s uncle’s hacienda in Cardenas, San Luis Potosi. We are very excited to be a part of these Mexican traditions! Our 13 and 14 year old sons will be with us and they’ve never been out of the country.
That sounds like an amazing trip. I just looked up that area of Mexico and it looks like it has beautiful architecture and attractions. I hope you have an amazing trip and your boys are at great ages to experience another culture. I hope they have a great time!
Your summer plans sound fantastic. Michigan shines in the summer months! I have very fond memories as a kid of visiting beaver island. My uncle was a pilot and would sometimes pick us up in Northport (grass runway) and fly us up to beaver island to help him with some projects on a house he owned there. I remember we would always buzz the airport on beaver island to make sure there were no deer there and then at the airport we would jump in his car, which was parked unlocked and with the keys in it!! Such a cool place!
Although I don't have any exciting travel plans yet, I would like to find a cool rental on a lake where I could take my grandson's, ages 9 & 11 fishing for a week. I personally am not that excited about fishing, and would love to take them on a trip or something like that, but they want fishing! Do you have any ideas for this wanting to make great memories grandma?! Thank you!!
Hi Barb, that sounds like a special trip with your grandsons! I would try and find a VRBO or something like that with access to a lake or possibly a hotel/motel near a marina. If you need help coming up with options let me know and I can ask around for suggestions. Thanks!
Hi Barb are you on Facebook? I posted asking for recommendations from other subscribers and got some great feedback. Please check it out. If you’re not on Facebook let me know and I can past their comments here. Thanks!
Alex that sounds like an amazing trip. I recently went down a rabbit hole looking at high speed rail options in Japan! I don’t have that trip lined up yet, but it’s definitely a place I would like to visit someday. I hope you have an amazing trip. Japan in the fall is supposed to be beautiful and hopefully a little less crowded.
We have a road trip planned for family and friends reunions in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia in July. Then my husband and I get to travel to Berlin for the first time for our anniversary. We're going out of the country for the first time without our 8 year old and have stops both ways in Iceland for the Sky Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon.....going to be amazing.
That Berlin trip sounds amazing! I've seen a couple flights with stopovers in Iceland, which I think is a great way to see two distinctly different places! Have a wonderful trip!!

We're headed out on a Mediterranean Cruise to see Spain, France, and Italy with our boys (ages 10 & 11).
Such awesome ages to experience a trip like that!! I hope you have a great time!!

Can you find any competitive rates from Grand Rapids to DC or Baltimore July 6-11? We’d love to go there.
Hi Diane, I just took a quick look and there is a really good flight option out of Lansing at $188. No major summer plans. Maybe local camping and canoe trip.
But in October we have a 2 week trip to Japan. First time.

Charleston is a beautiful city and September should be a great time to be there. I hope you have a great trip!!
